Hello CS 100W classmates, welcome to my newly created blog. My name is Matthew Pronge, and I am a junior enrolled at San Jose State University as a Computer Science major. My goal with this blog is to provide information about important facets of the computer science industry. There were many different majors that interested me, but Computer Science was the one that got me hooked. With an understanding of how to work with computers, it seems like one could take any idea they have and implement it in a program. It was that type of creative freedom that drew me to this major.
For the moment, I am a full-time student at San Jose State, my exposure to programming is limited to Java and C. I have a very solid understanding of Java, and I feel that I am at my best when I work with stacks and queues. Right now, I feel very comfortable working with anything related to java and I am always willing to learn more about aspects of computer science that I have no experience in. This semester will prove to be a very interesting one, and I anticipate that it will be quite challenging, but I relish the chance to prove myself.
You know that little red line that underlines words that are misspelled? I'm going to be like that line, but it a capacity currently unmet by our computers and algorithms. I'm going to be a little pearlescent hyper-blue line, which points out mistakes that do not break the syntax of your writing, but exist nonetheless. So like, you probably meant "CS", not "SC", and there's an inadvertent double-space between "understanding" and "of' in your first paragraph.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that computer science is a profession where competency means having the ability to express and create. Have you made any projects with the skill you've picked up in CS so far? I'm finding that actually using the skills I've been developing over the last few years is extremely rewarding.
My attraction for computer science mainly was also the ability it affords one to take an idea from just thoughts into a working program just by typing out some statements. I was completely awestruck by its capabilities when I first created a working piece of software, a Financial Accounting System.
ReplyDeleteAs a experience professional I felt that CS education mostly focuses on theoretical underpinnings which are very important to reason about a very complex problems one may occasionally face in the job but I strongly believe there must also be more focus on real life projects which would help one to cope very well in the early career.
